PESHAWAR, Jun 04 (APP): Police in Charsadda on Thursday arrested five persons posing as anti-corruption officials at the District Food Office.
Among those detained was a Civil Defence employee.
According to police report, the suspects claimed to be officials from the Anti-Corruption Department in Peshawar. Food Department staff became suspicious of their activities and contacted the Anti-Corruption Office in Charsadda for verification.
For the investigation, the suspects were apprehended and presented before the Deputy Commissioner. Police said a case was registered on the complaint of Assistant Food Controller Wajid Ali.
The accused have been booked under Sections 419 and 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code, along with six other charges, with a total of eight cases registered at City Police Station Charsadda.
Police said the suspects had also visited the Al-Khidmat Foundation Hospital and allegedly been extorting money from private institutions for several days while impersonating government officials. The arrested men have been identified as Hanif, Azam Ahmad, Zakaullah, Aqib Alam, Marjan Ali and Zubair.
