Chief Khateeb calls for increased investment in education, emphasizes importance of girls’ literacy

PESHAWAR, Jun 04 (APP): Chief Khateeb Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Maulana Tayyab Qureshi has called upon government to allocate greater financial resources to both schools and madrassas to ensure that every child has access to quality religious and modern education.
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Maulana Tayyab Qureshi stated that education is the foundation of a prosperous, peaceful, and developed society.
He emphasized that Islam places great importance on acquisition of knowledge and makes education obligatory for both men and women.
Quoting the saying of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), “Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim man and woman,” he said that denying educational opportunities to girls is contrary to both Islamic teachings and the collective interests of society.
The Chief Khateeb stressed that educated mothers play a critical role in raising educated families and responsible citizens.
He noted that when girls receive quality education, entire communities benefit through improved health, economic development, social stability, and stronger family systems.
He added that investing in girls’ education is an investment in the future prosperity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan.
Maulana Tayyab Qureshi urged policymakers to prioritize educational development, improve school infrastructure, recruit qualified teachers, support madrassas and ensure that no child is deprived of learning opportunities due to poverty, distance, insecurity, or social barriers.
He also highlighted the important role that District Khateebs can play in promoting education through mosques, religious gatherings, Friday sermons, and community outreach activities.
He encouraged District Khateebs across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to actively advocate for girls’ education, support school enrollment campaigns and motivate parents to keep their children, especially girls, in school.
Expressing concern over school dropout rates, particularly among girls, the Chief Khateeb called upon parents, community leaders, religious scholars, civil society organizations and government institutions to work together to bring out-of-school children back into classrooms.
He stressed that reducing dropout rates and expanding educational access should be treated as a collective responsibility.
“The future of our country depends upon educated and enlightened citizens. We must ensure that every child, whether studying in a school or a madrassa, has access to quality education that equips them to contribute positively to society and the nation,” he stated.
The Chief Khateeb reaffirmed the commitment of religious leaders to support initiatives that promote education, social development, peace, national progress, and called for stronger collaboration between educational institutions, religious scholars, government departments, and communities to achieve universal access to education throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
