Rain in several parts of the federal capital on Thursday prompted district authorities to intensify water drainage operations across major roads and low-lying areas.

ISLAMABAD, Jun 04 (APP):Rain in several parts of the federal capital on Thursday prompted district authorities to intensify water drainage operations across major roads and low-lying areas.
In this regard, Assistant Commissioners remained in the field to monitor the situation, while sanitation teams worked to ensure the smooth removal of rainwater and maintain traffic flow.
According to the district administration, rain was recorded in different sectors and surrounding areas of Islamabad. In response, Assistant Commissioners conducted visits to major roads, low-lying localities, and drainage channels to assess the situation and supervise ongoing operations.
The administration said sanitation staff were actively engaged in removing accumulated rainwater from roads and public spaces. Water drainage activities were being carried out using de-watering pumps and other machinery deployed at various locations across the city.
Officials reported that drainage work was progressing at a fast pace on several important roads, including I.J.P. Road, where teams were working to prevent water accumulation and reduce inconvenience for commuters. Special attention was being given to areas that are usually affected during rainfall.
Assistant Commissioners were also monitoring the condition of storm-water drains and nullahs to ensure the uninterrupted flow of water and to identify any potential blockages. Authorities said continuous inspections were being conducted to address issues promptly and prevent urban flooding.
The district administration further stated that preparations for the monsoon season had already begun. As part of these efforts, a citywide cleanliness campaign was launched in advance to clear drains, remove waste, and improve the overall drainage system before the arrival of heavier rains.
Officials noted that preventive measures were aimed at reducing the risk of water logging and ensuring public safety during the upcoming monsoon period. Relevant departments have been directed to remain alert and respond quickly to any weather-related situation.
Meanwhile, the administration said traffic movement on major roads was being monitored in coordination with the traffic police. Joint efforts were underway to keep roads open and ensure the smooth flow of vehicles despite the ongoing rainfall.
The district administration advised residents to remain cautious during wet weather conditions and assured that field teams would continue monitoring the situation across Islamabad to facilitate citizens and maintain normal civic operations.
