PESHAWAR, Jun 03 (APP): In a major welfare initiative for families of fallen police personnel, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police here on Wednesday distributed residential plot allotment letters to the heirs of 67 police martyrs during a special ceremony.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed attended the event as chief guest and personally handed over ownership documents to the families.
The ceremony was attended by Provincial Housing Minister Dr Amjad, senior civil, military and police officials, as well as relatives of the martyrs.
Speaking on the occasion, the IGP said the welfare of families of police martyrs was both a national responsibility and a moral obligation.
He paid tribute to the sacrifices rendered by police personnel in the fight against terrorism, saying the peace enjoyed in the province today was the result of the blood and dedication of the force’s martyrs.
He described KP Police as one of the country’s most battle-tested forces, noting that its personnel had remained on the frontlines of the counterterrorism campaign for more than two decades despite persistent security challenges.
Zulfiqar Hameed said that the recent decision to bring police salaries in line with those of Punjab Police reflected official recognition of the force’s sacrifices, adding that efforts were also underway to further improve welfare benefits, housing facilities and support packages for martyrs’ families.
He said that the department was working on a comprehensive welfare reform programme aimed at providing better housing, healthcare, training and social protection to serving personnel and the families of fallen officers.
The IGP also expressed concern over attempts by militant groups to target police families in some merged districts and said additional security measures were being pursued in coordination with the government.
The families of the martyrs appreciated the welfare measures introduced by the provincial government and police leadership, expressing hope that the sacrifices of their loved ones would continue to inspire future generations.
A total of 67 families received residential plot allotment letters during the ceremony as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support the families of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
