RAWALPINDI, Jun 03 (APP):A meeting of the District Peace Committee and Interfaith Harmony Committee was held in Rawalpindi on Wednesday to review security, administrative preparations, and interfaith coordination for peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram.
The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner General (ADCG) Maliha Sehar and attended by members of the peace and interfaith harmony committees, officials from relevant departments, and other stakeholders.
Addressing the participants, Maliha Sehar said that Islam promotes peace, tolerance, love, and brotherhood, while the sanctity of Muharram is equally respected by all schools of thought.

She noted that Rawalpindi has traditionally maintained exemplary law and order during Muharram and stressed the need for all institutions and citizens to demonstrate greater responsibility in preserving this record.
She warned that hostile elements could attempt to exploit religious occasions to create unrest after failing on other fronts. Therefore, she emphasized the importance of close coordination, unity, and vigilance among government departments, religious scholars, and peace committee members to prevent any disruptive activities.
The ADCG directed relevant authorities to complete all arrangements in advance, particularly along procession routes, at Imambargahs, and at other sensitive locations. She instructed departments concerned to ensure timely completion of sanitation, lighting, security, traffic management, emergency medical services, and other administrative measures.
“I will personally inspect procession routes, Imambargahs and other important sites to assess the preparedness of Muharram arrangements,” Maliha added.
During the meeting, officials from security agencies, rescue services, local government institutions, the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) and other departments briefed participants on the measures being undertaken for Muharram.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment by all stakeholders to maintain peace, religious harmony, and brotherhood during Muharram-ul-Haram and to ensure a secure and peaceful environment across Rawalpindi.
