PU launches AI chatbot to guide admission seekers

LAHORE, Jun 03 (APP): Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali on Wednesday inaugurated the university’s first artificial intelligence-based admission assistant chatbot aimed at providing guidance to prospective students regarding admissions and other university-related matters.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chairman Admission Committee Prof. Dr. Mahmood Saleem, Dean Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Prof. Dr. Shahzad Sarwar, deans of various faculties and administrative officers.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali appreciated the development of the chatbot within a short period and described it as a significant achievement. He said the university attached the highest priority to facilitating students and admission seekers and directed that the chatbot facility be extended to other departments of the university as well.

Briefing the participants, Prof. Dr. Shahzad Sarwar said the web-based chatbot had been developed by the university using its own resources and was the first such facility launched by a public-sector university for the general public. He said the chatbot would provide guidance in English, Urdu and Roman Urdu.

He said the AI-powered system would assist applicants regarding eligibility criteria for admission to various academic programmes and provide comprehensive information on admission tests, hostel facilities and programme requirements.

Prof. Dr. Shahzad Sarwar added that the chatbot would also offer complete guidance on scholarships, financial assistance opportunities and admissions under quota schemes. He said the facility would keep prospective students informed about important university announcements and help streamline the admission process by providing timely and accurate information.
