PAL Chairperson expresses deep grief over demise of noted Baltistan historian Ghulam Hassan Hasnu

Chairperson of the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL), Professor Dr. Najeeba Arif, has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of renowned historian, writer, and former member of the Academy’s Board of Governors, Ghulam Hassan Hasnu of Skardu, Baltistan.

ISLAMABAD, Jun 02 (APP): Chairperson of the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL), Professor Dr. Najeeba Arif, has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of renowned historian, writer, and former member of the Academy’s Board of Governors, Ghulam Hassan Hasnu of Skardu, Baltistan.
In a condolence message, Dr. Arif paid rich tribute to the late scholar for his remarkable contributions to literature, history, and culture. She said that Ghulam Hassan Hasnu was among Baltistan’s most distinguished literary figures and had authored, compiled, and edited more than 150 books on a wide range of subjects.
Among his most notable works are History of Baltistan, Culture of Baltistan, History of Chaqchan Mosque, and Majmua-e-Rasail Shah Hamadan. He also played a pioneering role in introducing the teachings and literary works of Syed Ali Hamadani and Shah Syed Muhammad Noor Bakhsh to Urdu readers through his translations.
Besides his scholarly contributions, Hasnu served as editor of the renowned monthly magazine Jahan-e-Tasawwuf. He also rendered valuable services in the field of education, teaching at various institutions and making a significant contribution to the intellectual and moral development of generations of students.
Dr. Arif described his death as a great loss to the literary and cultural circles of Baltistan and Pakistan. She prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, praying that they may be granted patience, courage, and strength to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude.
