PESHAWAR, Jun 02 (APP): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed has stressed the need for strengthening forensic and scientific investigation systems, saying modern technology and evidence-based policing are essential for effectively combating crime and ensuring justice.
During a visit to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Hayatabad on Tuesday, the IGP reviewed the laboratory’s operational performance and inspected various forensic sections, including fingerprint analysis, ballistics, narcotics examination, document verification, and biological testing.
Officials briefed him on the laboratory’s role in supporting criminal investigations, the use of advanced technologies, and efforts being made to improve the accuracy and efficiency of forensic examinations.
Speaking on the occasion, Zulfiqar Hameed said forensic science had become a cornerstone of modern policing, enabling investigators to solve complex cases through reliable scientific evidence. He noted that strengthening forensic services would not only help identify criminals more effectively but would also ensure fair and transparent investigations.
The police chief said the provincial police force was committed to modernizing its investigative framework and enhancing the use of digital and forensic tools to improve crime detection and prosecution.
He directed authorities to further upgrade the laboratory’s infrastructure, equip it with the latest technology, and enhance the professional skills of forensic experts through specialized training programmes. He also emphasized the importance of timely forensic reports to support swift and effective legal proceedings.
The IGP appreciated the work of forensic specialists and reiterated that a robust forensic system is critical for strengthening the criminal justice process, improving accountability, and delivering justice to citizens.
