PESHAWAR, Jun 02 (APP): Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) achieved a significant milestone in pediatric cardiac care as a joint team of experienced pediatric cardiac surgeons from Bahria Orchard Hospital Lahore and RMI successfully performed four complex congenital heart surgeries, including a highly specialized Arterial Switch Operation.
According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) is a complex congenital heart defect in which the major blood vessels arising from the heart are connected incorrectly, resulting in inadequate oxygen supply to the body.
The definitive treatment for this life-threatening condition is the technically demanding Arterial Switch Operation.
The visiting team from Lahore included Major General Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed, Head of Anesthesia, along with Pediatric Cardiac Surgeons Dr. Aitizaz Uddin and Dr. Salman Farsi.
The visiting specialists worked alongside RMI’s expert team, comprising Prof. Dr. Azam Jan, Dr. Tariq Sohail Babar, Dr. Nabeel Awan, Dr. Saira, Dr. Imtiaz, and Dr. Ahsan, to successfully perform four complex congenital cardiac surgeries.
In addition to the surgical collaboration, specialized training sessions were conducted for pediatric cardiac nurses and pediatric cardiac intensive care staff.
The initiative aimed to enhance clinical skills, strengthen professional capacity, and ensure the delivery of world-class healthcare services to patients.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Rehman Medical Institute, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rehman, praised the collaborative effort and emphasized the importance of academic and clinical partnerships in advancing healthcare standards.
