MULTAN, Jun 01 (APP):Milk is not merely a dietary staple but a nutritional powerhouse that supports the body
across every stage of life, said Dr Jamshid Akhtar, emphasizing the need to make it a daily dietary essential.
Speaking on the World Milk Day, Dr. Jamshid highlighted that milk was one of nature’s
most complete foods, offering an impressive profile of macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients
in a single serving. Rich in high-quality protein, it supports the building and repair of muscles,
organs, and tissues, while its calcium content is indispensable for developing and maintaining
strong bones and teeth.
The expert observed, milk also delivers a broad spectrum of vital nutrients including Vitamin D,
Potassium, Magnesium, and Phosphorus and these all critical to normal body function. He stressed
its particular importance for children and adolescents, whose growth and development depend
heavily on consistent nutritional intake. In older adults, he said, regular milk consumption helps preserve bone density and significantly lowers the risk of osteoporosis and fractures.
Dr Jamshid further explained that the electrolytes in milk, particularly Potassium, play a key role in regulating muscle contractions, managing blood pressure, and reducing cardiovascular risk. Protein, he added, promotes satiety and aids weight management, while Immunoglobulins present in milk contribute to a stronger immune response. Vitamin B, he said, is essential for healthy brain function and cognitive development.
Describing milk as a versatile and irreplaceable food, Dr Jamshid called for greater public awareness about its health benefits, urging individuals and families to incorporate it regularly into a balanced diet.
He further added that women in South Punjab rear cattle and earn handsome income. So, it empowers them economically. Dr Jamshaid further added that role of cattle farmers was of vital importance in promoting health.
