Smart sensors guide millions of pilgrims during Tawaf Al-Ifadah at Grand Mosque

ISLAMABAD, May 28 (APP):Advanced smart sensors and real-time crowd monitoring systems played a central role in managing the movement of millions of pilgrims performing Tawaf Al-Ifadah at Masjid al-Haram during Hajj 1447 AH.
According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques operated an integrated field and technical system to facilitate Tawaf Al-Ifadah and Sa’i smoothly and safely on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah.
Smart counting sensors installed at entry gates monitored the real-time movement of pilgrims entering and leaving the Grand Mosque, helping authorities accurately assess crowd density and regulate pilgrim flow.
SPA told APP that the digital monitoring system was linked with Nusuk cards and operational data platforms to guide pilgrims toward suitable Tawaf areas based on crowd levels inside the Mataf area surrounding the Holy Kaaba.
Authorities said pilgrims were directed to the ground floor when crowd levels remained normal, while upper floors were opened during higher-density periods to maintain smooth and balanced movement.
Field teams and guidance staff remained deployed across corridors and courtyards to help pilgrims reach Mataf and Sa’i areas easily and safely.
After completing Tawaf around the Holy Kaaba, pilgrims proceeded through organized routes towards Safa and Marwah to perform Sa’i in a calm and organized atmosphere.
SPA said cleaning and sanitation teams continued operations around the clock, while Zamzam water distribution points remained active throughout the Grand Mosque to facilitate pilgrims.
Authorities also provided electric and manual carts for elderly pilgrims and persons with disabilities to help them comfortably perform rituals.
Designated Tahallul stations for hair cutting and shaving were also operating under strict health and organizational standards to help pilgrims complete rituals and exit the state of Ihram smoothly.
