LAHORE, May 21 (APP): Punjab Health Minister and Chairman Cabinet Committee on Law and Order Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that Ulema are playing a vital role in promoting peace, tolerance and brotherhood in society.
He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of Jamia Ashrafia Lahore held at the Home Department on Thursday as part of the ongoing campaign of consultations with religious scholars. The meeting reviewed the overall law and order situation and discussed measures for promoting inter-Muslim unity across the province.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said the Punjab government is actively promoting inter-faith harmony and inter-Muslim unity throughout the province. He added that the government is taking serious and effective measures to ensure lasting peace and stability.
Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi said scholars belonging to all schools of thought are respected equally. He urged mosque Imams to create awareness among the public regarding the prevention of drug abuse during Friday sermons.
Jamia Ashrafia representative Hafiz Asad Obaid welcomed the Punjab government’s efforts for strengthening inter-Muslim unity. He said social stability can only be achieved through dialogue, understanding and mutual consultation.
Special prayers were also offered at the end of the meeting for the development, prosperity and security of the country and the nation.
The delegation was led by Hafiz Asad Obaid. The meeting was attended by Secretary Home Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi, Syed Tahir Raza Bukhari, Additional Secretary Internal Security Maham Asif Malik, Brigadier Asjad, Additional Secretary Special Initiative Abdul Rauf, Consultant Sohail Raza and other officials.
The Jamia Ashrafia delegation included Maulana Abdul Rauf Farooqi, Maulana Muhammad Amjad Khan, Saud bin Asad, Rana Abdul Jabbar, Maulana Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Inqilabi, Hafiz Abdul Wadood, Maulana Hussain Ahmed, Aziz-ur-Rehman Sani, Hafiz Muhammad Noman Hamid Jalandhari, Muhammad Tayyab Qureshi Advocate, Qari Muhammad Rafiq, Maulana Asadullah Farooq and others.
