PESHAWAR, May 18 (APP): Two police officials deployed to provide security for the anti-polio teams were martyred in separate firing incidents in Salarzai tehsil of Bajaur District on Monday.
According to Salarzai police, in the first incident, unidentified gunmen opened fire on police official Syed Aziz in the Dag Qila area while he was performing security duties for the ongoing polio vaccination campaign. He died on the spot.
Police reached the scene shortly after the attack, collected evidence, and launched an investigation into the incident.
In a second attack in the same tehsil, another police official, identified as Qadir, was also shot dead while assigned to polio duty. The two attacks occurred separately in the same area on the same day.
Authorities confirmed that both cops were part of security arrangements for polio teams operating in Salarzai. Security in the area has reportedly been tightened following the incidents, while investigations are underway to identify and arrest the attackers.
