Pakistan, China strengthen technical education collaboration at TVET Symposium in Beijing
BEIJING, May 17 (APP)::The Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing hosted a TVET Symposium titled “Building Partnerships for Skills Development and Academia–Industry Collaboration”, highlighting the growing cooperation between Pakistan and China in technical and vocational education.
Ms. Gulmina Bilal Ahmed, Chairperson of the National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), delivered keynote remarks at the event, emphasizing the tangible reforms and initiatives underway in Pakistan’s technical vocational education training (TVET) sector.
“We have here friends, colleagues, present partners, past and ongoing partners, and hopefully some new partners,” Ms. Gulmina Ahmed said, acknowledging the presence of Federal Minister of Education, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, for their leadership and support.
Ms. Gulmina Ahmed highlighted that Pakistan’s TVET sector is no longer in a planning phase but is actively implementing reforms. These include third-party monitoring, infrastructure development, faculty and student exchanges, technical competency enhancement, and international linkages, with China being the key partner. She noted that Chinese technical institutes have consistently hosted Pakistani students in a range of disciplines, including meteorology, hospitality, mechatronics, mountaineering and Chinese language studies.
The Chairperson also underscored efforts to leverage digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize opportunities in Pakistan’s TVET sector. “Led by the vision and passion of the Education Minister, we will now be even more focused on digitalization and AI optimization in partnership with our Chinese counterparts,” she stated.
Ms. Gulmina Ahmed further shared plans to expand collaboration into new fields such as intelligent and smart manufacturing, mining, AI, and traditional Chinese medicine, building on the action-oriented framework. She praised the openness of Chinese institutions, which have shared their learning management systems and welcomed Pakistani delegates for knowledge exchange.
Concluding her remarks, Ms. Gulmina Ahmed expressed optimism for the future of Pakistan-China technical education cooperation: “Pakistan-China friendship may prosper,” she said.
The symposium brought together education experts, industry leaders, and policymakers from both countries to strengthen partnerships and foster skill development through academia-industry collaboration.
