Arts council hosts tableau competition on women’s role

RAWALPINDI, May 15 (APP): A tableau competition highlighting the role and dignity of women in the society, was held at the Punjab Council of the Arts (PCA) under the theme “Hum Maaein, Hum Behnein, Hum Betiyan” here Friday.

The event, organized as part of initiatives of the Punjab government, featured participation from students of various schools, colleges and universities who presented theatrical performances on social issues.

Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Culture Punjab Shazia Rizwan, addressing the ceremony, said that women were the foundation of a progressive society and empowering them was essential for sustainable development.

She said that such creative platforms helped promote awareness, confidence and positive thinking among youth, adding that the government was committed to encouraging young talent and fostering respect for women.

Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Services Ziaullah Shah also appreciated the performances and termed the event a reflection of the government’s vision to promote constructive cultural activities.

Director Arts Council Rawalpindi Muhammad Shakoor said theatre and tableau provided an effective medium for expression and played a key role in highlighting social issues.

He said the council would continue to organise meaningful programmes to engage youth in positive activities.

A panel of judges comprising senior actors and directors Afzaal Latifi, Aslam Mughal and Arshad Masood Minhas evaluated the performances.

Government Associate Degree College for Women Civil Lines Jhelum secured first position, followed by Government Associate College for Women Khayaban-e-Sir Syed Rawalpindi, while Government Graduate College of Commerce Satellite Town Rawalpindi stood third.

Cash prizes of Rs. 30,000.0, Rs. 25,000.0 and Rs. 20,000.0 were awarded to the top three institutions respectively, while certificates were distributed among all participants.
