Governor Balochistan stresses promotion of legal trade, resolving traders’ issues

QUETTA, May 14 (APP):Governor Balochistan Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail has emphasized the significant role of traders in reviving the national economy, adding that “without trade, the economy cannot boost.” He assured that the government is taking serious measures to address traders’ concerns and promote legal trade across the province.
Speaking at the Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry, the governor highlighted the importance of chambers of commerce at both provincial and national levels, noting that the private sector has played a vital role in generating employment opportunities. He underscored the need for joint efforts to discourage smuggling and strengthen legal trade, adding that the federal government under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is working to expand trade with neighboring countries to boost business activity and create jobs.
Jaffar Mandokhail further pointed out the significance of the Pak-Iran Joint Chamber of Commerce, stressing that Balochistan’s business community can play a pivotal role in advancing legal trade. He also emphasized the importance of technical education and skill development for youth to align them with global market demands and reduce unemployment. Border trade security, he added, is equally essential to ensure smooth operations.
The event was attended by Provincial Adviser on Environment Naseem-ur-Rehman Mullakhel, Parliamentary Secretary Barkat Ali Rind, Mir Liaqat Ali Lehri, MPA Rahmat Saleh Baloch, Principal Secretary to Governor Nasir Khan Dotani, Federal Ombudsman Sarwar Brohi, and representatives of Quetta’s chambers of commerce including Haji Ayub Maryani, Jumma Khan, Haji Wali Muhammad Noorzai, Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, and Syed Abdul Khaliq Agha.
Several speakers echoed the governor’s sentiments. Naseem-ur-Rehman Mullakhail termed the governor’s presence among traders as encouraging, while Mir Liaqat Ali Lehri and Barkat Ali Rind assured that both the governor and chief minister would effectively highlight traders’ issues.
MPA Rahmat Saleh Baloch stressed that traders contribute significantly to the national exchequer and must be provided with favorable conditions under the constitution and law. He cited Makran’s production of 148 varieties of dates worth nearly Rs. 15 billion, noting that access to international markets could further strengthen the economy.
Other participants, including Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal and Haji Wali Muhammad Noorzai, emphasized the need to ease business processes, recognizing that a strong economy depends on empowered traders and industrialists.
