PCGA urges govt to cancel proposed plan to convert CCRI into gymkhana

Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) Chairman Sham Lal Manglani urged the Punjab government to immediately cancel the proposed plan to convert the Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI), Multan, into a Gymkhana Club.

MULTAN, May 12 (APP):Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) Chairman Sham Lal Manglani
urged the Punjab government to immediately cancel the proposed
plan to convert the Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI), Multan, into  a Gymkhana Club.
The PCGA chairman stated that the CCRI Multan has been Pakistan’s most important, central,
and specialized cotton research institution since 1970. The institute was not only the backbone
of national cotton research but also a pillar of Pakistan’s agricultural economy. Over the
past five decades, the institute has developed more than 40 high-quality cotton varieties.
Sham Lal Manglani said that CCRI Multan played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s three historic bumper
cotton crops of 1991-92, 2004-05, and 2014-15.
The institute represented Pakistan’s identity in cotton research at the international level and has
represented the country in several global forums, including the International Cotton Advisory
Committee (ICAC).
The PCGA  demanded that the proposed plan to convert the CCRI into a Gymkhana Club should be immediately canceled.
The land of CCRI Multan should be declared a “National Agricultural Research Heritage Site.”
A special grant should be released for the revival of the institute.
