Over 600 women receive certificates at Rawalpindi skills Mega Showcase
RAWALPINDI, May 12 (APP):Over 600 young women were awarded certificates in digital skills, hospitality and beauty services at a mega showcase on Tuesday, under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s “strong woman, strong Punjab” vision.
The participants included students from Ambassador Programme WBIC and SEHR, reflecting growing efforts to equip women with market-relevant skills across the province.
MNA Tahira Aurangzeb, in her address as chief guest, said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of “strong woman, strong Punjab” was being translated into practical initiatives. She said she had “for the first time” witnessed such a large gathering of skilled women under one roof, adding that women had been declared a ‘red line”’ by the chief minister. She said empowerment would be achieved through skills development.
Parliamentary Secretary for Women Development Department Punjab ,Sadia Tehmoor said the department was established in 2012 to safeguard women’s rights, adding that several new initiatives had been launched under the current government. She said Rs. 1 .0 billion had been allocated for 600 care centres, of which 365 had already been established.
She said 80 female ambassadors had been selected from 40 universities, while under the CM Youth Skill Programme, 10 selected women would receive Rs. 1 .0 million each on May 19 to start small businesses.
She further said that 2,500 skilled rural women would be linked with the textile sector by the end of the month, while women’s representation in chambers of commerce was also being expanded.
Parliamentary Secretary for Information, Shazia Rzwan also attended thee ceremony.
The event also featured a documentary showcasing government initiatives for women empowerment. Officials from the Punjab Arts Council and the Directorate of Public Relations Rawalpindi also attended the ceremony.
