9 killed, over 33 injured in powerful Sarai Naurang blast

At least nine people, including two traffic police officials and a woman were killed and more than 33 others were injured when a heavy explosive planted in a motorcycle went off in the main market of Sarai Naurang tehsil in Lakki Marwat district on Tuesday.

PESHAWAR, May 12 (APP):At least nine people, including two traffic police officials and a woman were killed and more than 33 others were injured when a heavy explosive planted in a motorcycle went off in the main market of Sarai Naurang tehsil in Lakki Marwat district on Tuesday.
According to initial police report, the blast occurred in a crowded area of the town’s main bazaar. Two traffic police officials, identified as LHC Rahatullah and LHC Adil Jan, were killed on the spot. Several injured victims later succumbed to their wounds, raising the death toll to nine.
Officials from Rescue 1122 said that all injured and deceased were shifted immediately to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Sarai Naurang.
Hospital authorities declared an emergency and called in additional medical staff to handle the situation.
Hospital officials said several critically injured victims were referred to hospitals in Bannu and Peshawar for advanced treatment. They added that the death toll may further rise as some of the injured were in critical condition.
Security forces cordoned off the area after the explosion and launched a search operation to investigate the nature of the blast and identify those responsible.
