ISLAMABAD, May 11 (APP):Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Yahya Afridi has been appointed as an Honorary Bencher of the Hon’ble Society of the Inner Temple, London, one of the four historic Inns of Court in the United Kingdom.
Barrister Saira Kabir Sheikh, King’s Counsel at Francis Taylor Building Chambers, London, formally conveyed the appointment during a meeting with the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday.
During the meeting, Barrister Saira Kabir Sheikh KC congratulated the Chief Justice on the honour and said the development would help further strengthen existing ties between the Inner Temple and Pakistan’s legal and judicial community.
According to a press release issued by the Supreme Court, the meeting was attended by the President and General Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Director General of the Federal Judicial Academy, Director General (Reforms) Supreme Court of Pakistan and Secretary of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan.
The participants discussed matters of mutual interest, including judicial education, professional training of lawyers and judges, continuing legal education programmes and opportunities for structured institutional cooperation.
Both sides emphasized the importance of such exchanges in strengthening legal capacity and promoting best practices within the justice system.
The Chief Justice appreciated the role of the Inner Temple in maintaining high standards of legal education and facilitating engagement among legal professionals across jurisdictions.
He also highlighted the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s interest in enhancing institutional collaboration with leading international legal bodies, particularly in the areas of training, knowledge exchange and reform-oriented initiatives.
The meeting reflected the Supreme Court’s continued engagement with leading global legal institutions as part of its broader vision to strengthen professional linkages contributing to the development of Pakistan’s justice system.
