ISLAMABAD, May 04 (APP):The Peace & Justice Network Pakistan (PJN) has officially launched the “Digital Defenders Pakistan” Portal—an AI-powered platform aimed at supporting Human Rights Defenders (HRDs), journalists, activists, and civil society actors in addressing digital threats and promoting a safe and inclusive digital civic space.
As civic engagement and public discourse increasingly shift online, the need for robust digital safety, privacy protection, and accessible support systems has become more critical. The Digital Defenders Pakistan Portal has been developed in response to these evolving challenges, offering practical tools, real-time guidance, and responsive support to help frontline actors mitigate risks and safeguard their work.
The platform features an integrated AI-driven support system that provides real-time guidance on digital safety, risk mitigation, and secure communication practices. It also includes a confidential incident reporting mechanism, enabling Human Rights Defenders to safely report cases of digital harassment, security breaches, or rights violations, with clear pathways for timely response and assistance.
In addition, the portal offers legal aid and advisory services, including guidance on cyber laws such as the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), helping users better understand and protect their digital rights. A wide range of multilingual digital security resources—including toolkits, safety guides, and training materials—are also available to cater to diverse user groups across Pakistan.
The platform further provides a secure virtual space where HRDs, journalists, and activists can connect, share experiences, and access peer support within a trusted environment.
Speaking at the launch, a PJN representative stated that as online risks and restrictions continue to grow, it is essential to ensure that individuals working to defend human rights are equipped with the necessary tools, knowledge, and support to remain safe, informed, and resilient in digital spaces.
The initiative reflects PJN’s broader commitment to safeguarding digital civic space in Pakistan by strengthening resilience, promoting rights-based digital engagement, and advocating for enabling legal and policy frameworks.
Human Rights Defenders, journalists, civil society members, and citizens have been encouraged to explore the platform and become part of a growing network committed to digital safety and rights.
