PPP dominates DI Khan politics: Governor Kundi

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, May 02 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Saturday said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has emerged as the dominant political force in Dera Ismail Khan, holding the highest number of elected representatives from the district.
In an interview with APP, the governor described Dera Ismail Khan as a stronghold of the PPP, attributing the party’s growing influence to increasing public support. He said the efforts were underway to further consolidate the party through worker conventions being held across the province, with more events planned in Peshawar and other divisional headquarters.
Highlighting development initiatives in the area, Kundi said practical steps were being taken to improve the socio-economic conditions of the district. He noted that work on a proposed airport project and a lift canal project was progressing steadily. The airport project, he said, would be presented at an upcoming board meeting of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), while the lift canal project was in tendering stage.
He said that the Indus Highway was being made dual road from Dera Ismail Khan to Kashmor under a project of Asian Development Bank (ADB). The project help enhancing transportation and regional connectivity.
Replying to a question regarding speculations about possible change of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s chief minister, the governor said only Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) could clarify it, adding that no such development was currently evident. He noted that certain elements within the party appeared interested in replacing their own chief executive, though no tangible progress had been made.
Dismissing rumors about the return of former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Kundi said such speculation was unfounded and often driven by wishful thinking.
Responding to another query about the meeting of former senator Waqar Khan with JUI-F leader Maulana Asad Mehmood, the governor opined that such meetings are routine matter of politics.
