KP Govt launches vocational training program for drug rehabilitation patients

LOWER DIR, Apr 29 (APP): A vocational skills training programme has been launched for patients undergoing treatment at the Drug Rehabilitation Center to help them rebuild their lives, stay away from drugs after recovery and earn a lawful livelihood.
The initiative was launched here Wednesday on the instructions of the provincial government under the supervision of Secretary Social Welfare Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sharif Hussain, Director Social Welfare Department Muhammad Khalid Zaman, Deputy Commissioner Lower Dir Muhammad Arif and the District Officer Social Welfare.
As part of the programme, a one-week training course on car tire puncture repair was formally inaugurated at the Narcotics Rehabilitation Center, marking the third day of rehabilitation activities.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Additional Deputy Commissioner Relief and Human Rights Syed Akram Shah said the seven-day training programme had been introduced to equip patients with practical skills so they could become self-reliant and earn halal sustenance after recovery.
He said the district administration was committed to supporting the rehabilitation of recovering patients and added that, with the help of philanthropists, efforts would also be made to provide them with the necessary tools to start their work independently.
Addressing the participants, Rehabilitation Officer of the Rehab Center Nisar Ahmad said it had always been his vision to equip admitted patients with useful vocational skills so they could lead dignified lives and avoid returning to addiction.
He said the support of the district administration, especially Additional Deputy Commissioner Syed Akram Shah, had helped turn this vision into reality, for which both the management and patients were deeply thankful.
The initiative has been widely appreciated as a positive step toward social reintegration and sustainable recovery for patients undergoing treatment at the center.
