Ethical use of AI vital for peace and social welfare: PA speaker

LAHORE, Apr 29 (APP):Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has stressed responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) for betterment of humanity, promotion of peace, and social welfare.
He expressed these views while addressing the “Third International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Social Transformation and Scientific Progress” as chief guest at the University of the Punjab, organized by the Department of Social Work, here on Wednesday.
The speaker said that although artificial intelligence is bringing revolutionary changes in various sectors, including medical science, it is essential to ensure that technological advancements are directed towards constructive purposes rather than destructive use. He stressed the need for innovations that help prevent conflicts and contribute to global peace, adding that the youth must take the lead in shaping a better future.
Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, urging students to remain focused and ambitious, said that the dreams and aspirations of young people determine the future of nations. He also highlighted the importance of legislation in areas such as social security, social work, and public welfare, assuring that the Punjab Assembly would continue to play an active role in strengthening these sectors.
The Speaker appreciated the prison reform initiatives undertaken by IG Prisons Farooq Nazir, terming his services commendable. He further described the Government of Punjab’s internship programme as a valuable opportunity for youth and supported the inclusion of social work within its framework.
The conference was also addressed by PU VC Dr. Muhammad Ali, IG Prisons Farooq Nazir, and other speakers, who highlighted the role of social sciences, technology, and youth in achieving sustainable social development. They emphasized that integrating AI with social welfare could lead to meaningful and positive societal transformation.
