PFA seals dairy unit and restaurant, fines juice plant

LAHORE, Apr 22 (APP):The enforcement teams of Punjab Food Authority carried out marathon operations against the adulteration mafia at Ali Pur Road, Garhi Shahu and Multan Road. During the crackdown, a dairy unit and a fast food restaurant were sealed, while a juice plant was fined Rs. 200,000.
Food safety teams also discarded 315 liters of substandard juice prepared for market supply. DG PFA said that action was taken over failure to comply with previously issued instructions, while the Brix level of the fruit juice was found below the prescribed standard.
He said that poor hygiene conditions, insect infestation and improper storage were observed at the units. Packing material, finished products and raw ingredients were found placed on broken and dirty floors, while pulp and other ingredients were stored in rusty and unhygienic freezers.
He stated that workers were operating without mandatory medical and food safety training certificates, and adequate pest control measures were not implemented as per regulations.
