QUETTA, Apr 17 (APP):Inspector General of Police Balochistan, Muhammad Tahir, has praised the dedication and professionalism of police personnel in maintaining law and order across the province, noting that 1,139 officers have laid down their lives in the line of duty to protect citizens.

He made these remarks while briefing trainee officers from the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) Quetta during their study visit to the Central Police Office, said a news release. The delegation was led by NIPA Director General Syed Ali Raza Shah and included senior police officials such as Additional IG Operations Agha Muhammad Yousuf, Additional IG Administration Javed Ali Mehr, DIG Headquarters Hassan Asad Alvi, DIG Tele Shad Ibn Maseeh, and AIG Operations Naveed Alam. The trainees also toured the Data Command and Communication Center, library, museum, and daycare facilities at the CPO.

IG Muhammad Tahir highlighted recent reforms, including the integration of B-Area into A-Area policing, which has accelerated modernization efforts. He reported that during a special campaign last year, police arrested 780 proclaimed offenders, 1,466 absconders, and 1,404 criminals, while successfully recovering 26 abductees. Officers demonstrating exemplary performance were awarded commendation certificates and cash prizes, while criminal records of arrested suspects were shared with other provinces.

He noted that the establishment of the Serious Crime Wing has enabled investigators to resolve complex and long-pending cases. Public trust, he said, has been strengthened through open courts held in districts and ranges, as well as complaint cells at the CPO, where grievances are addressed via WhatsApp, toll-free numbers, and other channels.

IG Muhammad Tahir added that Safe City cameras are being used to monitor traffic and criminal activity, yielding positive results. Former Levies personnel integrated into the police have received modern training and are performing impressively. He also emphasized welfare measures for families of police martyrs, ensuring their needs are addressed promptly.

He stressed that accountability within the department is enforced through rewards for good performance and penalties for poor conduct. He also highlighted the police’s humanitarian role, assisting citizens during floods, heavy snowfall, and storms, including rescue operations for stranded travelers. A rescue unit in Ziarat Valley, staffed with women officers, has been established to assist tourists in emergencies.

The briefing concluded with an exchange of commemorative shields between IG Muhammad Tahir and NIPA Director General Syed Ali Raza Shah.
