ISLAMABAD, Apr 16 (APP):Pakistan’s rising tennis star Mikaeel Ali Baig delivered an outstanding performance to book his place in both singles and doubles finals of the Subh-e-Nau ITF Pakistan Junior International Tennis Championship (Leg-II), underway at the PTF Tennis Complex.
Organized by the Pakistan Tennis Federation, the international junior event has attracted 41 players—22 boys and 19 girls—from 15 countries, highlighting Pakistan’s growing footprint in global junior tennis.
In a gripping boys’ singles semifinal, Mikaeel Ali Baig edged past fellow Pakistani Abubakar Talha in a three-set thriller, winning 7-6(2), 6-7(5), 6-4 to secure his place in the final. He will now face Sri Lanka’s Ganuka Fernando, who defeated Pakistan’s Amir Mazari in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.

Baig continued his impressive run in the boys’ doubles event as well, partnering with Ahtesham Humayun to overcome compatriots Zohaib Afzal Malik and M. Yahya 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals. The Pakistani pair will take on the Sri Lanka–Hong Kong duo of Ganuka Fernando and Jayden Park in the final.
In the girls’ singles semifinals, Russia’s Varvara Rubtsova outplayed China’s Yijiia Wang 6-4, 6-1, while China’s Zhiyu Zhou defeated compatriot Zihan Feng 6-3, 6-3, setting up an exciting title clash.

The girls’ doubles semifinals also witnessed intense competition, with China’s Ai Teng and Zhiyu Zhou narrowly defeating the Japan–Thailand pair in a closely contested match. Meanwhile, Varvara Rubtsova and Kazakhstan’s Safiia Urazalina advanced comfortably to the final with a straight-sets victory.
The championship is being sponsored by Bank Alfalah, Serena Hotel Islamabad, MRI Energies, Arif Habib Group, and Subh-e-Nau.
The finals will be played on Thursday, with boys’ and girls’ singles matches scheduled at 10:00 AM, followed by the doubles finals at 2:30 PM, promising an exciting conclusion to the international junior event.
