APHC applauds Pakistan’s role in averting US-Iran escalation

ISLAMABAD, Apr 8 (APP):The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter, in a high level meeting held on Wednesday under the leadership of its convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, said Pakistan played a “timely, balanced and effective” mediatory role in defusing tensions between the United States and Iran, helping avert a potential war at a critical juncture.
According to the press release, Hurriyat leaders observed that at a moment when global conditions were rapidly sliding towards confrontation and uncertainty, Pakistan demonstrated responsible diplomacy, far sighted leadership and an unwavering commitment to peace. They said Islamabad’s efforts not only prevented a potentially devastating conflict but also contributed significantly to regional stability and global security.
The meeting emphasised that the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir proved instrumental in bringing both sides to the negotiating table through sustained diplomatic engagement and quiet backchannel efforts. This intervention, they noted, substantially reduced the risk of a large-scale military confrontation, reinforcing Pakistan’s image as a responsible and peace-promoting state.
The statement further highlighted that Pakistan has consistently prioritised dialogue, diplomacy and adherence to international law in resolving global disputes. The recent development, it said, stands as a practical manifestation of the country’s growing role as a credible and proactive actor in international peacebuilding.
Hurriyat leaders also pointed out that the mediation not only helped avert a humanitarian crisis but also prevented potential shocks to the global economy, including disruptions in energy supplies and regional instability.
Drawing a parallel, the APHC urged India to move towards a just, lasting and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute, stressing that durable peace in South Asia remains impossible without addressing the longstanding issue. They called for a solution in line with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The leaders asserted that just as Pakistan has demonstrated constructive engagement at the global level, India should abandon what they termed coercive policies and instead adopt meaningful dialogue to resolve the dispute in accordance with principles of justice.
Concluding the meeting, the Hurriyat leadership lauded the government, armed forces and diplomatic institutions of Pakistan as a “moment of national pride,” expressing hope that the country would continue to play an active role in promoting global peace, stability and justice.
APHC also urged the international community to recognise and support Pakistan’s efforts, advocating for diplomacy and dialogue over conflict to build a more peaceful and equitable world order.
