ISLAMABAD, Apr 08 (APP):A meeting of the Advisory Board of Al Mizan Foundation was held at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, where members approved a major agreement aimed at significantly enhancing the Foundation’s financial sustainability and welfare outreach.
The meeting was presided over by Yahya Afridi, who also serves as President of the Foundation’s Advisory Board.
It was attended by the chief justices of the Federal Shariat Court and all high courts, reflecting a unified commitment of the superior judiciary towards strengthening the Foundation’s governance and welfare mandate.
The Board considered a proposed agreement between Al Mizan Foundation and Islamic International Medical College. Secretary of the Foundation, Zia-ur-Rehman, District and Sessions Judge, briefed the participants on the negotiations, key features of the draft agreement and its expected financial and social impact.
The Board was informed that the revised agreement, achieved after restructuring contractual terms, is expected to increase the Foundation’s revenue to nearly three times the level generated under the previous arrangement. This improvement is likely to strengthen financial stability and expand the Foundation’s capacity to run structured welfare programmes.
Under the agreement, 43 undergraduate scholarships will be offered annually, including three MBBS seats, with an estimated annual financial benefit of around Rs75 million. Over five years, 215 students are expected to benefit, while a total of 1,075 scholarships will be awarded over the 25-year term of the agreement.
The meeting was also apprised of plans for the establishment of an Al Mizan Medical Complex, which is expected to enhance asset development and provide improved healthcare facilities for beneficiaries in a sustainable manner.
After detailed deliberations, the Advisory Board unanimously approved the agreement, noting that its terms are balanced, legally sound and protective of the Foundation’s long-term interests.
The Board placed on record its appreciation for Mushir Alam, former judge of the Supreme Court and Chairman of the Committee of Administration, as well as the committee members, for their continued guidance and oversight.
It also acknowledged the efforts of Zia-ur-Rehman in advancing governance reforms, organizational restructuring and institutional revival, which have helped place the Foundation on a path of transparency, financial stability and sustainable growth.
The Advisory Board reaffirmed its commitment to disciplined governance, structured welfare and long-term institutional development to ensure that the Foundation’s resources are utilized effectively for the benefit of the public.
