Faisalabad sees maximum 76mm rain,WASA races to clear waterlogged areas

Heavy rainfall lashed various parts of the city since last night with the highest precipitation of 76mm recorded in Ghulam Muhammad Abad,prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to launch a citywide drainage operation.

FAISALABAD, Apr 07 (APP):Heavy rainfall lashed various parts of the city since last night with the highest precipitation of 76mm recorded in Ghulam Muhammad Abad,prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to launch a citywide drainage operation.
According to a WASA spokesperson, 68mm rain was recorded in Allama Iqbal Colony, followed by 52mm in Gulistan Colony. Other areas,including Jail Road, received 47mm rainfall, while Dogar Basti and Madina Town recorded 37mm and 36mm,respectively.
Managing Director(MD) WASA Saqib Raza directed operational staff to remain active in the field to ensure timely drainage of rainwater from low-lying areas.
He said machinery had been deployed at all major ponding points,while teams were working round the clock to facilitate smooth drainage.
MD Raza added that operations would continue until complete clearance of rainwater was achieved with priority being given to main roads and key intersections to restore traffic flow.
He further instructed that all disposal stations be operated at full capacity,adding that all available machinery had been made fully functional to handle the situation effectively.
He assured that all necessary measures were being taken to minimize inconvenience to citizens and prevent urban flooding during the ongoing spell of rain.
