10 killed, 1,683 injured in 1,423 accidents across Punjab

At least 10 people were killed and 1,683 others injured in 1,423 road traffic crashes reported across Punjab during the last 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department on Monday.

LAHORE, Apr 06 (APP): At least 10 people were killed and 1,683 others injured in 1,423 road traffic crashes reported across Punjab during the last 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department on Monday.
A spokesperson said the Rescue teams responded to accidents in all 37 districts of the province, shifting 757 seriously injured victims to hospitals, while providing first aid to 926 persons with minor injuries at the scene.
The data revealed that 77 per cent of the accidents involved motorbikes, highlighting the need for strict enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline to reduce road crashes.
According to statistics, 915 drivers, 64 underage drivers, 175 pedestrians and 603 passengers were among the victims. Lahore reported the highest number of accidents with 224 crashes affecting 290 persons, followed by Faisalabad with 117 accidents and 140 victims, and Multan with 87 crashes and 94 affected persons.
The report further showed that a total of 1,693 victims were affected, including 1,287 males and 406 females. Among them, 307 were under 18 years of age, 872 were between 18 and 40 years, while 514 were above 40 years.
Rescue officials said 1,510 motorbikes, 95 auto-rickshaws, 180 motorcars, 35 vans, passenger buses, 20 trucks and 64 other vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in these accidents.
