PHA launches plantation drive to expand green cover

LAHORE, Apr 05 (APP):Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) and NGO Bargad on Sunday launched a joint plantation campaign aimed at enhancing Lahore’s green cover under the slogan “Jithe haryali, otthe khushkhali.”
The inauguration ceremony was held at Qurshi Park, where Managing Director PHA Raja Mansoor attended as chief guest. He formally inaugurated the plantation drive by planting saplings along with other participants.
A target of planting 5,000 saplings has been set under the campaign, while special focus will be given to planting indigenous and shade-giving trees across designated sites.
Talking on the occasion, MD PHA Raja Mansoor welcomed the participation of non-governmental organizations in environmental initiatives, terming it a positive and encouraging development for urban sustainability. He said that PHA was fully committed to expanding Lahore’s green cover through strategic plantation drives and environmental planning. He added that several mega projects, including green corridors, had already been launched to improve the city’s ecological balance.
The MD further announced that a free home delivery programme for plants had also been initiated to encourage citizens to actively participate in plantation efforts at the household level. He emphasized that special attention was being given to the protection of existing trees along with new plantation drives to ensure long-term environmental sustainability in the city.
Participants of the ceremony also planted saplings, marking the formal start of the campaign, and expressed their resolve to promoting a greener and healthier Lahore.
