Over 17,000 police personnel deployed for Easter security in Punjab

LAHORE, Apr 04 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem has ordered for a province-wide high security alert for Easter, with enhanced security measures across all districts, including Lahore, to ensure peace and protection of citizens.

The IG Punjab directed that police officers and personnel deployed at markets, bazaars, recreational spots, and sensitive locations must remain fully vigilant at all times. He said that more than 17,000 police personnel have been deployed across the province, while over 3,000 officers and officials have been assigned security duties in Lahore alone.
He further instructed that Lady Police Squad, Dolphin Force, Police Response Unit (PRU), and Elite Force teams ensure effective patrolling around commercial centers and important public places. Strict and immediate action has been ordered against elements involved in harassing women in public spaces, particularly in markets and recreational areas.
A Punjab Police spokesperson said that continuous surveillance of markets, shopping centers, and sensitive locations is being carried out through Safe Cities Authority cameras. Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) have been directed to personally visit field areas and review security arrangements.
The IG Punjab further said that personnel deployed at interprovincial border check posts must maintain strict vigilance to monitor any movement of terrorists or anti-state elements. In view of increased public activity in markets, additional traffic wardens have also been deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow.
He added that, in connection with Easter, combing, search, and intelligence-based operations are being further intensified across the province to maintain a peaceful environment for citizens.
