Governor stresses role of business community in economic growth

LAHORE, Apr 04 (APP):Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has said that business activities are indispensable for development of the economy and can be accelerated by providing a conducive environment to traders.

He expressed these views while meeting a delegation of All Pakistan Small Traders and Cottage Industry, led by President Babar Butt at the Governor’s House, here on Saturday. A large number of business community representatives, including Group Leader Anjum Nisar, Faheem-ur-Rehman Sehgal and President Lahore Chamber Ashraf Nizami, were also present.

The governor said that small industries and cottage industry are the backbone of the national economy, adding that the business community has played a vital role in sustaining economic activities despite challenges. He stressed that representatives of the business community should be taken into confidence while formulating economic policies, as their input is essential for sustainable growth.

He noted that the efforts of traders had not only strengthened the economy but also created employment opportunities, adding that Pakistan could attract foreign investment and achieve economic stability through a business-friendly environment.

Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), as a coalition partner, was committed to improving the economic situation of the country and resolving issues faced by the business community on a priority basis. He assured that the concerns of traders would be communicated to the relevant authorities for timely resolution.

Referring to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the Governor paid tribute to him on his death anniversary, saying that he laid the foundation of Pakistan’s nuclear programme, which strengthened national defence. He said Pakistan had achieved significant progress due to these efforts and reaffirmed that the country seeks peace and stability in the region. He added that Pakistan is making efforts to reduce regional tensions and promote dialogue among parties.

On the occasion, prayers were offered for the eternal peace and high ranks of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
