Senator Sherry Rehman pays tribute to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

ISLAMABAD, Apr 04 (APP):Vice President of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Senator Sherry Rehman, paid tribute to the founder of PPP and former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on his 47th death anniversary, acknowledging his immense contributions and sacrifices for the country and its people.

In her message, she said that  Bhutto as a visionary, astute, and people-centric leader who possessed remarkable political foresight and a deep commitment to public welfare. She stated that Bhutto, through his exceptional leadership and wisdom, steered Pakistan out of critical challenges and elevated its stature on the global stage.

Senator Rehman highlighted that the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 remains a historic milestone reflecting Bhutto’s political insight and dedication to safeguarding public rights. She further noted that during his tenure, Pakistan made significant progress, including the initiation of the nuclear program, development of key industries, and introduction of pro-people policies.

She emphasized that Bhutto introduced major reforms such as agricultural restructuring, affordable public transport, expansion of basic healthcare facilities, free medical treatment, and increased budget allocation for education. He also empowered citizens by encouraging participation in decision-making and introducing national identity documentation.

Referring to his execution on April 4, 1979, Senator Rehman termed it a “judicial killing,” which was later widely regarded as a miscarriage of justice in legal and historical contexts. She added that the event led to prolonged political instability and public disillusionment in the country.

She also noted Bhutto’s efforts in uniting Muslim countries on a common platform and raising the issue of Kashmir at the international level.

Senator Rehman reiterated that the people-centric political philosophy of Benazir Bhutto continues to guide the party’s struggle. She expressed confidence that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will carry forward Bhutto’s mission and uphold the power of the people.

She further stated that under the leadership of Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the PPP will continue striving to overcome the country’s challenges while remaining committed to the vision of its founding leader.

Concluding her message, Senator Rehman said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto continues to live in the hearts of the people, and his struggle will always remain a defining chapter in Pakistan’s history.
