30 die 85 injured in rain-related incidents in KP since March 25: PDMA
PESHAWAR, Apr 04 (APP): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here Saturday released a report detailing the human and material losses caused by ongoing rains across the province since March 25 last month.
According to the report, at least 30 people have lost their lives and 85 others injured due to rain-related incidents, primarily caused by collapsing roofs and walls of houses.
Among the deceased are 20 children, five men, and five women. The injured include 36 men, 11 women, and 38 children.
The report further states that a total of 140 houses have been damaged so far, with 115 sustaining partial damage and 25 completely destroyed.
The incidents have been reported in multiple districts, including Bannu, Abbottabad, Kohat, Peshawar, Nowshera, Bajaur, Lakki Marwat, Kurram, Hangu, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Upper Dir, Battagram, North Waziristan, and Tank.
According to the PDMA, rescue and relief operations are ongoing, with Rescue 1122, district administrations, and other relevant agencies actively coordinating efforts.
Authorities have been instructed to accelerate relief activities and ensure immediate assistance to affected individuals.
The PDMA also noted that intermittent rainfall is continuing in various parts of the province, with a new spell expected from April 1 to April 4.
Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from vulnerable tourist locations. The public is urged to follow official alerts and advisories issued by government agencies.
A PDMA spokesperson confirmed that the Emergency Operations Center is fully functional. Citizens can report any emergencies or seek weather updates and information by calling the toll-free helpline at 1700.
