CM Punjab announces major relief package, free public transport for one month

LAHORE, Apr 03 (APP): In line with the national savings and austerity program initiated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday announced a comprehensive relief package across the province to mitigate the impact of ongoing global economic crisis.
As part of the initiative, all public transport services in Punjab would remain completely free for one month.
This includes the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train, Metro Bus Service, Speedo Bus, and Green Electric Buses, enabling citizens to travel without purchasing tickets.
In addition to transport relief, the Chief Minister unveiled significant financial support measures for the agriculture sector and general public. Farmers will receive a subsidy of Rs 100 per litre of diesel per acre, aimed at reducing cultivation costs and ensuring food security.
Motorcycle owners will also benefit from a subsidy of Rs 100 per litre on up to 20 litres of fuel, providing
monthly relief of Rs 2000 per registered bike owner.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif paid tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for maintaining petroleum product prices and ensuring uninterrupted supply for one month despite global economic pressures.
She noted that billions of rupees had been allocated to shield citizens from rising costs.
Highlighting Pakistan’s dependence on imported oil, she said the country remains particularly vulnerable to global conflicts and economic instability. She urged citizens to prioritize public transport over private vehicles during these challenging times.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to public welfare, the Chief Minister assured that further relief measures would be introduced as economic conditions improve.
