ISLAMABAD, Apr 03 (APP):Maroof International Hospital (MIH) has marked World Autism Awareness Day with a significant awareness event, highlighting the importance of early intervention and inclusive support systems for children with autism.
The event was attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Pakistan, Rongvudhi Virabutr, who underscored the need for timely diagnosis and societal inclusion.
A symbolic Autism Awareness Walk was also held within the hospital premises, bringing together staff, families, and guests to promote acceptance and understanding.
Addressing participants at the hospital’s Early Intervention Therapy Unit (EITU), the ambassador emphasized that early diagnosis can play a transformative role in a child’s future.
He urged society to move beyond sympathy and focus on creating equal opportunities, while also sharing Thailand’s vocational initiative “Steps with Theera” and reaffirming support for autism care efforts in Pakistan.
CEO MIH Haroon Naseer said autism awareness must go beyond words, stressing the need to build systems that nurture children’s potential and enable them to thrive.
Medical Director Dr. Mir Waheed highlighted that early intervention is as vital as emergency care and called for immediate action to improve outcomes.
Tehreem Khan Bangash elaborated on the hospital’s comprehensive services, noting that with structured and evidence-based interventions, children with autism can develop communication skills and achieve greater independence.
The EITU provides services including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, individualized education plans, parent counseling, social skills training, and vocational programs.
The ambassador presented certificates to EITU professionals, recognizing their efforts and reinforcing the message that awareness must lead to action, inclusion, and opportunity for every child.
