An official told APP on Friday that police teams in Tarnol were engaged in routine checking when they tried to stop four armed suspects riding two motorcycles on suspicion.
He said in a separate incident, Sabzi Mandi police conducted a raid after receiving information about the presence of criminal elements, where suspects opened indiscriminate fire upon seeing the police teams.
The official said police personnel remained safe due to protective measures and bulletproof jackets, while the suspects were injured by firing from their own accomplices during their escape attempt.
He said three dacoits were arrested in injured condition, while one suspect was apprehended while attempting to flee.
According to the official, the arrested suspects in Tarnol were previously involved in dozens of cases of robbery, dacoity, and other heinous crimes across Islamabad and Punjab.
He said the injured suspect arrested in Sabzi Mandi was also a proclaimed offender and wanted by police in multiple cases of serious crimes.
The official said the suspects confessed to committing several robbery incidents at gunpoint in Tarnol during Eid-ul-Fitr days.
He said four pistols along with ammunition used in the crimes were recovered from the suspects, while a snatched motorcycle was also recovered from Tarnol area.
He added that other accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness, and search operations were underway to arrest them.
