Punjab govt to enhance capacity of PHOTA: Minister Salman

Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that the capacity of the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA) is being increased in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

LAHORE, Apr 01 (APP): Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that the capacity of the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA) is being increased in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Chairing a meeting at the PHOTA head office on Wednesday, he stated that strict action is being taken against the illegal transplantation of human organs across Punjab, adding that no leniency would be shown to those involved in this unlawful practice. He emphasized that providing the best possible healthcare facilities to the public remains a top priority of the government.
Khawaja Salman Rafique highlighted that thousands of lives are being saved through PHOTA and noted that the Punjab government has launched several key initiatives in the health sector. These include kidney and liver treatment programs, bone marrow transplantation, cochlear implant, and cornea transplant programs.
On the occasion, Director General PHOTA Professor Dr. Aamir Zaman Khan said that the authority is being developed on modern lines in accordance with the vision of the Punjab government. He reiterated that those involved in illegal organ transplantation do not deserve any concession.
The meeting was attended by DG PHOTA Professor Dr. Aamir Zaman Khan and Additional Secretary (Technical), Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Waseem, along with other officials.
Later, Khawaja Salman Rafique also planted a sapling under the Green Pakistan campaign.
