RAWALPINDI, Apr 01 (APP): The Rawalpindi district administration has established a round-the-clock control room and reviewed preparedness measures in anticipation of the flood season 2026, an official spokesman said on Wednesday.

The District Emergency Operations Centre (DEOC), set up at the Civil Defence Office on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema, will remain operational 24 hours to ensure swift response and coordination in any emergency. Representatives of various departments have been deployed there in shifts.

Civil Defence Officer Ghulam Mustafa and System Network Administrator Fahad Hassan are overseeing the facility to maintain effective communication and timely action in case of any contingency.

Meanwhile, a high-level meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner Office, jointly chaired by Member of the National Assembly Tahira Aurangzeb and Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema, to review flood preparedness, the functionality of the control room and inter-departmental coordination.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) Abdul Rehman, assistant commissioners and officers of relevant departments attended the meeting.

The participants reaffirmed their commitment to implementing a zero-tolerance policy in line with the Punjab government’s directives, emphasising that negligence would not be tolerated. Departments were directed to ensure field presence, keep machinery and resources ready, and respond promptly to any emergency situation.

Officials from the district administration, health authority, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Rawalpindi Waste Management Company, Municipal Corporation, Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, police and traffic police have been assigned duties in the control room to ensure timely action in case of any potential threat.

The deputy commissioner said protection of life and property remained the administration’s top priority, adding that all available resources would be utilised and a coordinated strategy adopted to deal with any unforeseen situation.
