Decision to launch Smart Rapid Transport System in Lahore

The Punjab government has decided to introduce Smart Rapid Transport (SRT) system in Lahore, which will be operationalise on the Yellow Line route.

LAHORE, Mar 30 (APP):The Punjab government has decided to introduce Smart Rapid Transport (SRT) system in Lahore, which will be operationalise on the Yellow Line route.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has entrusted the task of making this project operational soon to Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan.
According to Bilal Akbar Khan, the SRT system will be operated on Canal Road from Thokar Chowk to Harbans Pura, the total route of which will be about 26 kilometres. Under this project, about 8 stations will be constructed on canal.
He said that 6 rail units will be operational for this system and travel facilities will be provided to more than 12,000 passengers daily. The project is estimated a cost of Rs 6 to 8 billion.
According to the provincial minister, although the route of the Yellow Line is also the same, the target has been set to make the Smart Rapid Transport System operational within a month, while the tender for this project has also been opened.
