PM&DC takes notice of alleged filming in hospital

ISLAMABAD, Mar 30 (APP):The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has taken serious notice of an alleged incident involving the filming of patients during surgical procedures at Lady Willingdon Hospital in Lahore, raising concerns over medical ethics and patient privacy.
According to reports, a video recorded inside an operating theatre—purportedly showing medical staff engaging in unprofessional conduct—has gone viral on social media.
The footage has sparked widespread concern about the violation of patient dignity, confidentiality, and standard medical practices.
In response, PM&DC has issued formal notices to both the hospital administration and the doctors allegedly involved, directing them to submit detailed explanations with their roles and the circumstances under which the video was recorded and shared.
The Council emphasized that recording patients without explicit consent, especially in sensitive environments like operation theatres, constitutes a serious breach of professional ethics and may violate fundamental patient rights.
PM&DC President Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj said that such actions are unacceptable and will be dealt with strictly under the relevant regulatory framework.
He reaffirmed the Council’s zero-tolerance policy towards ethical violations, particularly those compromising patient confidentiality and dignity.
The Council has sought comprehensive details, including the identification of individuals involved, any consent procedures followed, and disciplinary actions taken by the hospital administration.
Upon receiving responses, PM&DC will review the matter and initiate appropriate regulatory and disciplinary proceedings.
Reiterating its commitment, PM&DC said that safeguarding patient rights and maintaining public trust in the healthcare system remains its top priority.
