Chinese CG, Punjab home secy discuss security of Chinese nationals

LAHORE, Mar 24 (APP): Chinese Consul General (CG) Lahore Sun Yan on Tuesday visited the Punjab Home Department and held a meeting with Secretary Home Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi to discuss law and order and security arrangements for Chinese nationals in the province.
According to spokesperson, this was the first visit of Sun Yan to the Home Department after assuming office. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the overall security situation in Punjab and measures in place for the protection of Chinese citizens.
Speaking on the occasion, the consul general said that Pakistan and China enjoyed traditional brotherly relations,adding that Lahore was a city of historical significance and he was pleased to visit it.
He noted that several projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor were underway in Punjab and that Chinese nationals were working in a friendly environment in the province.
He appreciated the role of the Punjab Home Department in maintaining law and order.
Welcoming the consul general, Dr.Ahmed Javed Qazi said that ensuring the safety of all Chinese nationals residing in Punjab was the top priority of the provincial government.
He expressed hope that the consul general’s stay in Lahore would further strengthen historic ties between Pakistan and China.
The secretary said that foolproof security arrangements had been made in all industrial zones of Punjab, adding that government offices remained open for Chinese citizens and officials.
He further said that the capacity of the Special Protection Unit was being enhanced for the security of Chinese nationals, while standard operating procedures issued by the federal government were being strictly followed to ensure their safe movement.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr.Ahmed Javed Qazi presented souvenirs to the consul general.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Consul General of China,Special Secretary Home,Additional Secretaries for Foreign National Security and Internal Security,Deputy Secretary Foreign National Security and other relevant officials.
