Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Thursday announced that the Chief Minister of Sindh has approved the construction of a new Sukkur-Rohri bridge over the Indus River.

SUKKUR, Mar 19 (APP):Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Thursday announced that the Chief Minister of Sindh has approved the construction of a new Sukkur-Rohri bridge over the Indus River.
The new bridge will connect Sukkur and Rohri, along with surrounding areas, and is expected to reduce traffic pressure on existing routes. The Chief Minister stated that Sukkur and Rohri are integrated urban and economic corridors.
Briefing the meeting, Minister said that approximately 70% of residents from Rohri, Saleh Pat, and Pano Aqil visit Sukkur for employment, education, and medical treatment. The current Lansdowne Bridge, which is being repaired, will be closed to public traffic until 2027.
With over 30,000 vehicles using the Lansdowne Bridge daily, heavy traffic is not allowed, affecting ambulance and emergency services. The new bridge will alleviate traffic congestion and reduce rush.
The Chief Minister has approved the Project Development Facility for the new Sukkur-Rohri bridge, which will be completed under the PPP model by the Local Government Department. Transaction advisors will be appointed for the project.
The new bridge will be approximately 1.5 km long and multi-lane, with separate routes for heavy vehicles and pedestrians.
