RAWALPINDI, Mar 16 (APP): The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) carried out a special zero-waste cleanliness operation across the Rawalpindi Division on the 27th night of Ramazan to ensure a clean environment for worshippers and residents.
Under the initiative, RWMC teams conducted extensive cleaning, washing and lime-spraying in masajid, their adjoining areas and graveyards throughout the division. Additional sanitation staff and machinery were deployed to maintain cleanliness and ensure the immediate removal of waste.
According to the RWMC spokesman, containers were washed, drains were thoroughly cleaned, and garbage was promptly collected and transported to designated disposal sites to facilitate worshippers offering prayers during the holy month.
A separate cleanliness drive was also undertaken in graveyards across the city, where sanitation workers removed weeds, cleared waste and sprayed lime to provide a better environment for visitors paying respects to their departed relatives.
Meanwhile, the company continued its anti-littering awareness campaign across the division. Announcements were made through megaphones in various localities, while information kiosks were set up at bus stands, streets and markets to encourage citizens to dispose of waste at designated points.
Awareness messages were also disseminated through masajid announcements, cleanliness walks, displays on large public screens and broadcasts on cable television and radio.
Chief Executive Officer of the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company, Rana Sajid Safdar, said providing a clean environment for citizens during Ramazan and ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr remained the organisation’s top priority.
He said RWMC staff were working round the clock to make the city zero-waste and urged residents to cooperate by disposing of garbage only at designated places to help keep Rawalpindi clean and beautiful.
