Spring Tree Plantation drive launched in Mirpur

A spring tree plantation campaign on Monday was launched here at View Point Park  under a joint initiative of the Municipal Corporation and the Kashmiri NGO Anjuman Falah-o-Bahbood Insaniyat Mirpur, in collaboration with the “Heal the Earth” Free Plant Nursery.

MIRPUR (AJK), Mar 16 (APP):A spring tree plantation campaign on Monday was launched here at View Point Park  under a joint initiative of the Municipal Corporation and the Kashmiri NGO Anjuman Falah-o-Bahbood Insaniyat Mirpur, in collaboration with the “Heal the Earth” Free Plant Nursery.
A brief ceremony was held at the park to mark the launch of the drive, attended by a large number of citizens, social workers and members of the public. Mayor Mirpur Ali Usman Khalid attended the event as chief guest.
Among those present were environmental activist Labina Majid, Deputy Mayor, Muhammad Ramzan Chughtai, XEN Corporation Mirpur, Chaudhry Shahzaib Karamat, SDO Corporation Mirpur Raja Muhammad Hafeez, President Anjuman Falah-o-Bahbood Insaniyat Mirpur Dr Tahir Mahmood, Jahangir Mughal, Farzana Nawaz Raja, Hafsa Bari and other notables of the city.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Ali Usman Khalid said the services of welfare and social organizations were commendable and widely recognized.
 He said such organizations were playing an important role in the development and beautification of Mirpur by working alongside government institutions to improve the city and protect the environment.
He also appreciated  Dr Tahir Mahmood’s efforts and his team for promoting tree plantation and environmental protection in the city.
Other speakers, including Deputy Mayor, Muhammad Ramzan Chughtai, stressed the importance of tree plantation, describing it as the need of the hour.
They said trees help keep the environment clean, reduce pollution and play a key role in mitigating the effects of climate change.
They urged citizens not only to plant trees but also to ensure their proper care and protection so the city could become greener and more vibrant.
Dr Tahir Mahmood thanked the guests and participants and said the slogan of the “Heal the Earth” Free Nursery was “One Person, One Tree.”
He expressed hope that people of Mirpur and surrounding areas would adopt the message by planting more trees in their homes, neighborhoods and across the city.
