Former DG APP Mufti Jamiluddin Ahmed passes away in Islamabad at 84

Former Director General of the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) and former senior bureaucrat of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Mufti Jamiluddin Ahmed, passed away in Islamabad on Sunday at the age of 84 after a period of illness.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 15 (APP): Former Director General of the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) and former senior bureaucrat of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Mufti Jamiluddin Ahmed, passed away in Islamabad on Sunday at the age of 84 after a period of illness.

Mufti Jamiluddin Ahmed had a long career in public service and media affairs. He served in key positions in the government and also worked in journalism and education.

During his time in government service, he worked with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. He also represented Pakistan in diplomatic media roles abroad. He served as Press Counselor at the Pakistan Embassy in Germany and later worked as Press Minister at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, India.

In 2002, he was appointed Director General of the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), the national news agency. In this role, he supervised the news service and worked with journalists and editors across the country.

After his retirement from government service, Mufti Jamiluddin Ahmed moved to the academic field. He joined the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) in Islamabad where he worked as Professor and Head of the Department of Mass Communication. At the university, he taught students and guided research in media studies.

He also remained linked with journalism and wrote for national newspapers. During this period, he worked with English-language newspapers The News and Dawn in Islamabad.

Family members said he spent his later years in Islamabad with his family.

Mufti Jamiluddin Ahmed is survived by three sons and two daughters.

According to the family, his Namaz-e-Janaza will be offered on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 11:00 am at the H-8 Graveyard in Islamabad.
