Free livestock distributed among deserving women

Under a Punjab government initiative aimed at women empowerment, free livestock was distributed among 233 deserving widowed and divorced rural women through an online balloting process in the tehsils of Bahawalpur, Hasilpur, Yazman and Khairpur Tamewali.

BAHAWALPUR, Mar 15 (APP): Under a Punjab government initiative aimed at women empowerment, free livestock was distributed among 233 deserving widowed and divorced rural women through an online balloting process in the tehsils of Bahawalpur, Hasilpur, Yazman and Khairpur Tamewali.
According to an official press release issued here, the program was being implemented under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to economically strengthen widowed and divorced rural women in South Punjab, including the Bahawalpur region.
The statement said the Government of Punjab was transferring livestock assets to 11,000 poor, widowed, and divorced rural women across South Punjab at a cost of Rs2 billion. The initiative aims to provide them with a sustainable source of income and to support the rural economy.
Under the programme, deserving women in 12 districts of South Punjab are being provided with healthy buffalo heifers and young cows free of cost.
