ISLAMABAD, Mar 12 (APP): SK Hydro Private Limited has launched its eighth annual afforestation drive along the Kunhar River, planting thousands of saplings in partnership with local authorities to support Pakistan’s tree plantation program.
More than 160,000 trees have been planted to date, strengthening ecological protection around the SK Hydropower Project and reinforcing the company’s commitment to green development.
The campaign, themed “Beautify the Kunhar River Bank, Build a Green Power Station Together”, was jointly organized with the local government, forestry department, environmental protection agency, and the project’s operation and maintenance (O&M) contractor.
Participants planted saplings on the hillsides, adding vitality to the landscape and curbing soil erosion near the project site. Each lift and fall of the shovels planted hopeful saplings, carried forward the commitment to green development, and fulfilled corporate social responsibility.
Years of sustained afforestation efforts have not only effectively curbed soil erosion near the project but also significantly improved the ecological landscape of the power station. It stands as a vivid example of Chinese enterprises practicing green development, and a profound testimony to the shared pursuit of Chinese and Pakistani builders to “promote green development and achieve win-win symbiosis.”
As the largest greenfield hydropower investment project by a Chinese enterprise overseas and also the largest hydropower project invested by CEEC abroad, the SK Hydropower Project successfully commenced commercial operations on September 14, 2024.
To date, the project has delivered a cumulative total of over 3.1 billion kWh of clean electricity. It has injected strong green momentum into Pakistan’s energy structure optimization and high-quality economic and social development, while writing a touching chapter of ecological cooperation and mutual benefit between China and Pakistan through concrete actions.
